Finding inspiration in everyday moments is like discovering little treasures along our journey. It's these moments that make us pause, reflect, and often, change the course of life. Lately, I've noticed how these inspiring moments have helped establish a more solid routine in my life.
The beauty is that inspiration is everywhere. But you need to create the right environment to truly feel it.
But inspiration is everywhere. I assure you.
Whether it's the beauty of the sunset sky, a different graffiti on any wall, a passage from a book, or even on social media (yes, believe it!). I know... For a long time, I doubted that, even though I always knew it was possible to find inspiration there. Sometimes, it seemed like the price to pay was too high.
For me, it was instant: opening social media and being flooded with a barrage of emotions, falling into addiction or boredom (always oscillating between extremes), and ending the experience with an anxious mind. That's why I deleted Twitter. That's why I disconnected for a while.
I mean, I've always been there, after all, it's part of my job. I was on social media every day, but it was a mechanical routine: log in, post, take a quick look, and log out. I didn't have the energy or enthusiasm, to be honest.
But when seeking inspiration, I realised that social media is a wonderful tool for that. Easy, accessible, with a multitude of interesting people to connect with.
So, I decided to change my relationship with all of this.
And in the end, it's us who choose the type of relationship we want to have.
So, I made my choice. I started organising my social media, starting with Instagram (Twitter remains deleted) - I have two accounts on Instagram: a personal one, where I follow people I love, and admire, and want to follow their journeys (although sometimes it makes me anxious, as comparison is inevitable - strange, but common) - and a professional account, where I follow content that calms me, inspires me, and gives me ideas.
By limiting the number of accounts I follow on this second account where I like to spend more time, I reach a point where I can see everything there is to see. Can you believe it? It's a wonderful feeling that I didn't remember feeling with social media. Like, it's over. That's it.
Take a look at the Instagram profiles I follow to understand what I'm saying.
But I have to highlight here that the main reason things are flowing better is exercise. I know, I know, everyone is tired of hearing about it. But I don't know, I always knew too, but I don't always take it seriously. But now that I want to be more consistent in life, I'm remembering this again.
I've been dedicating time to physical exercise, remember when I mentioned about creating conducive environments? So, I'm taking this more seriously, really forcing myself to stick to it (I lay out my clothes the day before and the next day I just wake up and go - at the time I don't think much about it, because if I think I'll want to keep sleeping), not just for physical well-being, but also for the positive impact it has had on my mind.
I'm going to create within my mind a conducive environment to inspire myself. Exercise moments are opportunities to disconnect from the external world and reconnect with my own body. I always underestimated the impact this could have.
But there's so much. Everything becomes easier: getting inspired, creating, and having the energy to do the things I want. Now I just need to be consistent with meditation, but I'm on the right track.
It seems that whenever I exercise, right afterwards I can think and act more easily. Could dopamine explain this?
I researched to make sure and, yes, it seems to explain and go beyond. Take a look at this article, I'm impressed and even more motivated to continue with this routine.
Summary with the help of ChatGPT: The article reveals the scientific link between exercise and mental health, citing the release of "hope molecules" during physical activity that act as antidepressants. It emphasises the importance of promoting regular exercise for preventing illness, maintaining independence with age, and improving overall well-being. Despite known benefits, trends show declining physical activity among young people, which can negatively impact mental health. Ultimately, the article encourages choosing exercise as a means to combat low mood and enhance mental well-being.
Science confirms it. To be inspired, we need to create space and conducive environments - both within ourselves and around us.
I finished a sensational book this week, which made me reflect a lot on this. How good it is to be able to create these spaces and be inspired.
"Sometimes I catch myself thinking about how good it is to appreciate the breeze. When I feel the light wind of the night on my face, the feeling of suffocation dissipates. They say there is no breeze in hell, so that means we are not in hell. What a relief, isn't it? If I can experience a moment like this every day, I know I'll have the strength to continue." - Welcome to Hyunam Dong Bookshop
To be inspired! Things I've seen around...
→ every time I watch videos with this vibe, it makes me want to go back to creating more videos
→ this poem
→ a website that creates a playlist for the vibe you describe (sensational recommendation from @tiradopapel)
→ oh, the carnival... sad I missed that (but what if famous directors filmed the Brazilian carnival?)
